We’re starting to build an interesting collection of viewer-submitted rock art finds … the latest comes from Rafael C., who writes that he and his friend found this carved stone while digging a trench at a location near Oxnard, California. Rafael said that it was “deep in the ground,” and measures 12 1/4 inches tall by 8 inches wide.
The pictures sent by Rafael show the front and back (below), and I find it interesting that the carved figure stops short of the top edge of the stone, and that it looks like it might have even been polished somehow, as the color of the figure is different from the color of the rest of the stone. It appears to be a sleeping figure wrapped in a blanket …? What do you think? If anyone has seen something like this before, or has any information that we can share or pass on to Rafael as to what he has here, please do so in the comments section below.
