Students at SIUE will be greeted by a new sculpture when they return in 2020. An “e” sculpture made its debut on December 17 in Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Hairpin. The seven-foot tall, seven-foot wide monument was created by Dave Thomas Design of Edwardsville.
The thought behind creating the sculpture was to better brand the Hairpin and also provide photo opportunities for students, alumni and visiting guests. Vice Chancellor for Administration Rich Walker tells The Big Z they took their time bringing this idea to reality.

The statue cost approximately $20,000 to design, fabricate and install. If the response is good, Walker says he’d like to install a few more ‘e’s on campus.
