Houston is hosting a variety of events during the holiday season, some more chilling than others. Halloween is long over, so we don’t mean “chilling” in the spooky sense, we’re talking about something much less scary than a haunted house. Houston’s ice sculpture festival at Discovery Green is taking place later this month, and it’s going to be a chilling good time!
On Friday, November 22 Discovery Green is kicking off their holiday season with Frostival! From 6 to 10 p.m., Houston’s most iconic park will have ice carving demonstrations, ice sculpture photo ops, ice skating and much more.
There’s nothing else in the city that will have you feeling quite as festive as Frostival will.
The event is completely free to enjoy, however, if you donate $20 in advance or $25 the day of the event, you’ll get a hand-carved stein made of ice while supplies last!
Plus, a free craft beer or root beer from the delicious Saint Arnold Brewing Company.
Attendees are more than welcome to go ice skating during Frostival, though the normal $11 fee will apply, plus $4 to rent skates if you don’t have your own.
The more involved with ice you are during Frostival, the better! And the better photos you’ll leave with, of course.
While at Frostival, you’ll also get to experience the public opening of Paloma, which is a massive public art installation that’ll light up Discovery Green in ways we’ve never seen before.
A French creative studio, Pitaya, is responsible for Paloma and will be hanging up 200 colorful aluminum “origami” birds along Discovery Green’s Brown Promenade.
We can hardly wait for Frostival, and if you’re like us, you’ll be out on the ice skating rink at Discovery Green before, during and after the event. See you there, skaters!
