Karl Stefanovic has enlisted the services of prominent defamation barrister Bruce McClintock in his bid to sue the publisher of The Daily Telegraph.
Nine’s high-profile television presenter has filed a statement of claim against newspaper publisher Nationwide News over suggestions he took a $1 million cut in pay to return to the Today show.
Stefanovic was axed from Nine’s Today show in 2018 amid a media storm relating to his marriage to shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough. The longtime breakfast TV host is set to return to the program in 2020. Today’s broadcaster, Nine, is the owner of this masthead.
Documents filed with the Federal Court of Australia’s New South Wales registry also name News Corp journalist Annette Sharp as a respondent. Sharp wrote the story which was published online under the headline: “Karl Stefanovic risks $1m ‘image bonus’ with return to Today show”. News Corp has been contacted for comment.
