He and his fans took to social media to criticise the action, with one fan calling it “un-Melburnian”.

“Well that was a load of wank getting cut off last song,” Gallagher wrote.

“250 thousand dollar fine if we played over the curfew last night 250 thousand dollars 250 thousand dollars.”

“I mean those tunes are biblical and I’m the f****** biblical brother but c’mon that’s a f****** piss take who ever made that rule needs to stop smoking SPICE.”

Margaret Court Arena and Melbourne City Council have been contacted for comment.

Former AFL star Matthew Richardson labelled the matter a “joke”.

“Melbourne lives up to its name – a NANNY STATE,” tweeted Otto Clinton.

Another Twitter user, identified as Jon, claimed Gallagher’s show started late because stadium officials wanted it to end slightly later than Elton John’s show at Rod Laver Arena in order to stagger foot traffic.

“And because of this, Liam’s set got cut off half way through the last song which was already two less songs than he played in Sydney … I can’t wait to move back to England,” he wrote.
