“2002 was hot enough to melt the coolest band on Earth. Bunch of Kiwi jokers called The D4 were close to it. Performed like ferrets on red cordial in a bouncy castle. Ginger guitar guy Dion Palmer was everywhere. In the pit, on his back, on the speaker stack. Finally, during what could only have been a 12-bar breakdown, he ripped off his guitar, shirt, boots, socks, belt, jeans and jocks. A flash of ginger pubes, a hastily re-strapped guitar and he hit the solo on the one.” – Michael Dwyer

“Meredith in 2006 was the hottest ever, apparently. The three days were all more than 40 degrees. When the sun disappeared at night it was much better, and I’d never heard of Norwegian electronic band Datarock, but they killed it. Amazing. For their encore they provided my single best Meredith “moment” – coming back on stage on BMX bikes and red jumpsuits to play a record: (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. It was wild. Been chasing the feeling ever since.” – Chris Johnston

Sitting on the grass in the sun, recovering from the night before and promptly having my mind ripped to shreds by a local punk band I’d never heard before, playing songs over two decades old – it felt like peak-Meredith: a discovery for some and total familiarity for others.
