They say the best way to predict the future is to create it. Late last year, Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway, hosts of the podcast Pivot, predicted 2019 would be the year of a Silicon Valley reckoning. Since then, the pair have hammered the tech bros and mega corporations of the Valley each week for continued privacy violations, stock overvaluations, and the gulf between the rhetoric of “bringing the world together” so many of these companies espouse, and the reality of their products.

Swisher is a long time technology reporter who seems to be on a first name basis with everyone in the Valley, from Tim Cook to Mark Zuckerberg. Galloway is an academic from NYU, with a gift of distilling the most complicated stories into relatable, often hilarious anecdotes. Both have a razor sharp wit and an on-air chemistry that can only be described as odd.

Pivot is so much more than a technology podcast. While the show focuses on big tech names such as Google, Apple, Facebook and Uber, it uses these companies to tell a much bigger story of the failings of modern capitalism, growing income inequality, and the delicate nature of international trade.

Swisher has been a consistent and incisive critic of Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg. She has long believed Zuckerberg describes Facebook as a tech platform, not a media company, to avoid the responsibility of running the largest and most powerful media company in the world. She insists Zuckerberg needs to accept Facebook is a media company, or step down from running the social media giant.
